Around Pheasant Cottage
The Stiperstones Ridge is a few miles away. It is a quartzite Ridge formed some 480 million years ago. The five mile ridge is a great walk and at 536m above sea level is the second highest hill in the county (the first being Brown Clee). Other local walks are The Shropshire Way and the Long Mynd. Find out more about where to ride, walk and cycle from Shropshire Council or Shropshire Walking.
The The Stiperstones Inn catering for walkers all year round, roaring fires in the winter and a lovely beer garden in the summer is worth a visit and the area includes the haunting remains of ancient mines from hundreds of years ago.
It is worth considering Michelin Starred Checkers at Montgomery, mountain biking at Estridge or paragliding on the Longmynd and Corndon.
There are a number of market towns within an hour's drive, Bishops Castle with its annual walking festival, Real Ale Festival and Michaelmas Fair is about 9 miles away. Ludlow with its festivals, fine dining, medieval architecture, castle and a wide range of independent shops, about 24 miles. Shrewsbury with its castle, abbey, passageways and independent shops about 17 miles away.
For some, the expertise of one of the owners of Pheasant might just be an idea, who knows? They offer the chance for denture making to suit whilst staying at the cottage as a very surprising unexpected extra. Although utterly utterly unexpected and off the wall, it may be just the thing whilst having a good time staying at the Cottage.

Sept 2014 "Thank you for your email. Indeed my friend, Carole and I have returned from our holiday at Pheasant Cottage. We were delighted with the cottage and the friendly owners, who made us most welcome but were not intrusive in any way. However, they were very kind and concerned when I fell at Powis Castle last Wednesday and was taken to A&E at Shrewsbury. We unfortunately felt that we needed to return home on Thursday - but this has not diminished our enjoyment of Southern Shropshire and we are hoping to return to Pheasant Cottage and enjoy more of the countryside etc.I would have no hesitation in recommending both your organization and the particular cottage we stayed in. It suited us extremely well and we intend to book it again when I'm recovered, even if only at very short notice when we, and the cottage, are available. Thank you for your efficient and friendly service."
