The Area Around Sunnyside

Sunnyside is quite remote and therefore a car is an absolute necessity, but the peace and quiet this affords is fabulous. The cottage itself has a fenced garden, with a field below which takes you straight out onto 200 acres of common land perfect for an early morning walk with or without a dog. Numerous walks are available straight from the cottage. Others include Bromyard Downs, Bringsty Common and National Trust Woodland at Brockhampton, all of which have unlimited access to walkers.

Sunnyside is a real haven and a retreat from the modern day hustle and bustle, perfect as a getaway, and at the end of your stay you will feel refreshed, ready to face the world again!

An ideal base for those wanting a complete break from it all, although within an hours drive are some of the area's leading attractions: West Midlands Safari Park, Witley Court (English Heritage), Hartlebury Castle, the Severn Valley Steam Railway, The Wyre Forest and Ludlow Castle , Hereford Cathedral and its medieval chained library.

The cottage is suitable as a quiet country escape, offering the ideal location to explore South Shropshire and Herefordshire. There are several market towns a short drive away all with historic interest: Shrewsbury , Ludlow, Leominster, Hereford, and Hay on Wye a little further to the West. Smaller places, such as Dymock and Kempley are well worth a visit as well as Ledbury, Gloucester and Worcester.

Sunnyside is a large country retreat, with peace, quiet and relaxation at the top of the list, perfect for a family get together, especially with the games room, great on a rainy day or an evenings entertainment.

February 2017 "Hi guys, just wanted to let you know we had a fantastic stay at Sunnyside. Thanks so much for all your help, it was well worth it! "

(This was a particularly challenging booking for us at CHL featuring 4 pets and a Thursday to Sunday stay. We are grateful for the patience of the guests that things went well)

February 2016 We had a lovely time at Sunnyside.

When we arrived it was warm and a welcome gift of local apple juice and after 8's was on the kitchen table The location was rural and quiet and the accommodation was just as we expected from the description Really enjoyed the table tennis in the games room even though there's no heating in that part of the building so rather chilly in February! The cottage was very well equipped and logs for the wood burner ensured a cosy time after walking in the Malvern hills and around local paths Beds were comfy and the place was nice and clean too

We'd recommend the live and let live pub restaurant in Bingsty (not to be confused with the other one) it wasn't cheap but the food and welcome and listed building charm were fab We had a great break at Sunnyside and would say it was very good value for money and would recommend it wholeheartedly. The owner ensured we had a warm welcome by calling on the first morning of our stay too

November 2015 "The cottage was so lovely,so cozy and comfortable. The view, the wood burning, the owl, the sheep, the game room added the beauty of the cottage. We love the cottage very much and would love to come again during summer.Thank you for the excellent service from country holiday let and to Mr Charles Cawley."

August 2015 "Sunnyside is a very comfortable cottage. It is very quiet and secluded, ideal for a complete unwind. Kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need. The woodburner is excellent with logs included for a cosy evening in. WiFi is easy to use and reasonably fast. Games room with table tennis excellent."

August 2015 "....... What a lovely, peaceful and tranquil spot. The area is lovely. The cottage is also lovely, well kept and very well stocked with essentials. The garden is very well kept and we all enjoyed the table tennis room.......

The woodburner is cosy, and does warm up the sitting room very quickly; we lit it the first evening as it had been raining and we all felt a bit damp, but that soon cured us. We were lucky enough the rest of the week with the weather not to need any extra heat......... We would definitely return.

May 2015 "We had a wonderful week at Sunnyside enjoyed it's beautiful views and peaceful location hope to return in the not too distant future."

October 2014 "I wanted to take this opportunity of thanking you for allowing us to rent your wonderful cottage. Every autumn half term we take our grandchildren to a different part of Britain and Ireland and we all agreed that Elcocks was by far the nicest cottage we have ever stayed at. It was incredibly well appointed, in a most beautiful location, wonderfully peaceful and so lovingly restored to the highest standards.

The children were thrilled with their 'secret' bedroom and slept well which is unusual as they normally take a day or two to settle down. I thought I knew England quite well but I was bowled over by the beauty of your counties and your wonderful specimen trees. Every field seemed to have a magnificent oak or lime or chestnut standing in the middle of it and they appeared to be of great antiquity.

In comparison Cornwall is bare of such beauties as our poor trees are bombarded by the Atlantic furies. We all agreed we must return in the future. Thank you once again for a wonderful break.

February 2012 "We had a fabulous holiday at Sunnyside. The cottage is delightful - very clean, cosy, extremely well-equipped and in the most wonderful location. We really felt as if we had a good break away from the bustle of everyday life. The welcome gift was an added bonus and much appreciated by everyone. The owner was very kind and checked we were ok which was nice, but really there was nothing that I could have said needed to be improved on. They had thought of everything. We have stayed in lots of cottages, but have to say that this one has to be up there as one of the best. Also wanted to let you know that the whole booking experience through yourselves and the owner has been excellent and we will certainly use you again. Thanks to everyone concerned."

February 2012 "Sunnyside is a lovely, beautifully restored property - our jaws dropped at the 'before' photos in the downstairs bathroom. Maybe a bit small for 8 we thought, in our party there were 6 adults and one child and a dog and the living room felt very cosy!..... it was clean, well appointed, there was everything we needed in the kitchen and more. It was great that there was a box full of OS maps and directions to walk to the pub across country - which we did.

The wood burning stove was lovely once we got it going. The table tennis table was great. Garden, bedrooms, bathrooms etc. all lovely. Beautiful location, very quiet - no worries about disturbing the neighbours. Would definitely recommend it. Lovely cake and llocal apple jiuce and dog biscuit when we arrived too. "

Sept 2011
" ...we had a marvellous few weeks in Sunnyside.... After a full day of travelling, to arrive late at night to a box full of goodies from the local shop, was wonderful. The house was spotless and very well stocked with everything one could possibly need to get away from the outside world.

Having a washing machine, clothes dryer, two fridges and dishwasher meant that we could truly relax. We really appreciated the huge amount of information about the local area, with maps for walking, places of local interest and complete up-date listings of things to do day by day for the entire three weeks.

We went to all the local pubs, fairs and markets that we could squeeze in, and lived off the local produce on offer by the many growers, butchers, bakers etc. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment for serious cooks (as we are, or at least try to be!) - we were very impressed to have one of the large saucepans which had had a little too much 'wear and tear' replaced within hours of our mentioning it. The fruit trees in the garden were heavy with ripe fruit so we literally 'lived off the land' . The garden was beautifully manicured upon arrival - with the lovely balmy weather, we were able to relax in the deck chairs in the early evenings and watch the pheasants run back and forth in front of us!

One of the best features of this house is the table tennis/games room which kept our children busy for most of the holiday. Because of the twin bedroom and downstairs shower room, the biggest bonus was being able to invite my elderly mother-in-law for a few days. She was very comfortable and did not have to deal with a single step....... Thanks so much for making this booking so easy and efficient. We would happily recommend Sunnyside to any of our friends."

Aug 2011
"We were a party of 5, 4 adults and my daughter who is 14. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, found the accommodation perfect to our requirements. We found the property very clean and well presented and through the welcome gifts of apple juice and a cake a lovely touch. Upon leaving we tidied the house and stripped the beds which I have already received an e-mail from the owner thanking us. All in all a lovely holiday."

Aug 2011
"Apologies for delay, life has been hectic since our return, we could so easily return to Sunnyside for further rest and relaxation! It proved a wonderful visit, the cottage and accommodation suited all the family perfectly. The cottage wanted for nothing, the setting, wildlife and even the weather were idyllic. ......... We would thoroughly recommend Sunnyside, it's location and the places of interest in the area are wonderful, our 6 days were certainly not long enough. I'm so pleased I used your website and found such a stunning property."

April 2011
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunnyside. The cottage was lovely and well stocked with everything you could need for a wonderful holiday. The weather was fabulous too and the views from the cottage were spectacular. The children had great fun doing an easter egg hunt in the extensive grounds and the games room."

April 2011
"Sunnyside is wonderful! A beautiful house in a beautiful setting."

Dec 2010
"Loved the cake and lit fire on arrival - really lovely touch and the facility to pre-order from the village shop (although our order got lost in the Christmas post - they quickly put one together on the day and we collected on our way through). We adored the fire, it really made our stay. The cottage was clean and fresh throughout and felt well cared for and refurbished to a good standard. The games room was fab - we had many a table tennis game in there! The position of the cottage and enclosed garden were lovely."

Nov 2010
"Just to say we had a great time in Herefordshire. The accommodation was just perfect and gave us the chance to celebrate my birthday with all our family and the dog! I can honestly say that there is nothing I could suggest to improve except the weather! Thank you for your quick response as I only booked at 10pm ish before arriving at lunchtime the next day. We shall be looking at your website again."
