Knighton House

Knighton House is a  traditional welsh stone built house.  With a great deal of history, the building is thought to be approx 200 years old, the house is furnished beautifully with many period features, set in the typical border market town of Knighton. Ideal for flexible weekend parties or mid-week breaks as well as for longer breaks, it is a good base for a party of eight to explore and enjoy this beautiful area.

Knighton is an attractive border town, mostly mediaeval - the Eastern edge of the town is actually in England but the main part is in Wales. The main street is topped by a clock tower around which are a number of narrow streets with local shops and cafes to explore, these streets are called "The Narrows" locally.

There is a local Town Trail available which shows visitors the places of interest around the town and gives you an insight into the incredible history as well as the Marches history. Knighton was governed by the Mortimer family who had their stronghold in nearby Wigmore for many years, the remains of their castle still stands.

Offa's Dyke Path and Glyndwr's Way National Trails both run through Knighton, it is midway along Offa's Dyke and the start of Glyndwr's Way. The lovely surrounding countryside makes it ideal for walking, cycling and outdoor activity holidays. Knighton is home to the Offa's Dyke centre, with an interactive exhibition covering the fascinating history of the dyke and other walks available locally.  On this part of Offa's Dyke are some of the best preserved earthworks.  Close to the town are the Spaceguard Centre and the Judges Lodging at Presteigne, there is, also, a local 9 hole golf course, 18 hole golf courses are available at both Kington and Ludlow nearby.

Knighton has a great deal to offer visitors, you can enjoy a quiet drink or meal in a local pub, all of which ooze history or browse the quirky variety of shops at your leisure. The house, being in the centre of Knighton is close to all the shops, including a reasonable sized supermarket, there are shops available 7 days a week, although please check the opening hours. This area is saturated with local artists and their work can be seen and bought locally as well.  Knighton is well equipped with shops catering for walkers and cyclists with an array of equipment including waterproofs and maps available. Visit Things to do for Free for more ideas.

Knighton House really is central to most things required for a great holiday, banks with cashpoints, a petrol station, a leisure centre with pool, a beauty salon, hairdressers, lots of pubs restaurants and shops as well as fabulous countryside for walks and cycling.  A Farmers Market is held once a month.

This is an idyllic retreat based in a English/Welsh border town, any time of the year, there is plenty to see and do.  Visit the Events Calendar , Attractions and Where to Eat pages for more information.

"We really enjoyed the break. The house was excellent - really comfy and convenient."

Aug 2011

"Excellent house in an unbelievably friendly town - if you are in a pub you are fair game for the banter (Recommend the George & Dragon). Was helped by visiting at the summer carnival - Knighton knows how to party. It is on the queue for a return visit in a few years, as we just scratched the surface of things to see. The house's location in the town is perfect. ....Well equipped, can cook for 8 and the dining room seats 8 (You would be surprised at the number of houses we have rented that do not contain enough plates, let alone pans to cook, for all of us and require eating in relays at a minute - but terribly stylish - table.) Recognise that there was two reception rooms identified on the website but when you have grandparents and children the ability for the two volume levels to be genuinely separated rather than at either end of one room is brilliant. Music playing facilities Bumper book of what to do in and around Knighton. Very high standard of furnishings....."

"Knighton House provided us with excellent accommodation for our weekend away. We really could not fault the house in any way. Knighton is a lovely little town, and it's a great base for visits to other nearby places such as Ludlow. The house was full of character and also good value considering its size and presentation. All my holidays and weekend breaks for the last 20 years have been in self-catering properties all over the UK and Ireland and Knighton House is near the top in terms of the standard of accommodation. It contained everything we could possibly need, and more, and had a delightfully quirky lay-out....."

"Fantastic"

March 2011

"We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday to Knighton and Knighton House was wonderful - beautiful and spacious. None of us wanted to leave and we wish we had spent longer there. Many thanks for your help."

Oct 2010

"..we had an absolutely great stay. It really is a wonderful house, and everyone was absolutely delighted with it. Very big and homely. Knighton is a nice little town too - perhaps a little undersold on your site? It has quite a few decent pubs, shops and places to eat - it was  bigger with more to do than I perhaps realised.  And it really is a good place for walkers, and exploring some nice nearby towns.

House was lovely and clean, and well stocked with kitchenware etc. I'll certainly recommend it to others. A decent price too, considering its size."

Sept 2010

"we had a lovely time and Knighton House was exactly what we expected. So only really positive feedback"

Sept 2010

"Yes, we certainly did!  (Enjoy our holiday.)  The house was warm, comfortable, well-equipped and intriguing"
