About The Lanes
The Lanes is a beautiful black and white cottage and garden situated central to Leominster, Hereford, Ludlow and Hay on Wye. The Lanes has been totally refurbished and the rooms redesigned, to allow spacious, sunny rooms that have been comfortably and tastefully furnished and are ideal for couples.
The cottage accommodates four people. In winter months there is central heating as well as a woodburner providing a warm, cosy atmosphere that will ensure a perfect winter break, no matter what the weather.
“The cottage was more than we could hope for, lovely location, very dog friendly garden and decorated to a very high standard. We can't stress how much we loved it. We regularly stay at holiday lets and this is probably the best cottage we have stayed in.
The actual booking on the internet site was very simple with no hidden costs and the photos represented the cottage very accurately, looking for a similar site for the wider England. The cheque refund came through very quickly - will book again and recommend to anyone who listens - 5 star in all areas” May 2012
“Our holiday at The Lanes was wonderful, the cottage was one of the best that we have ever stayed in after 33 years of cottage holidays. It was beautifully furnished and very well equipped, everything was a very high standard. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linen and towels were beautiful Egyptian cotton.
The welcome pack of bread, milk, eggs and butter was thoughtful and a lovely start to the holiday. The enclosed garden was very well maintained and safe for our little dog. We would strongly recommend The Lanes.” May 2012
“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - despite the fairly atrocious weather! As keen walkers we do quite a lot of cottage holidays and therefore have come to know what we want in terms of standards, convenience and comfort.
The cottage ticked all the boxes for us. Bedding, towels, kitchen equipment etc all to a high standard and clean - I didn't have to wash any crockery, cutlery or pans before I could use them! We loved the cottage and its location. The securely fenced garden was a real bonus. We plan to return to the area and would not bother to look at any other cottages - we hope to be able to return to The Lanes.” April 2012
“We had a wonderful holiday at The Lanes. The cottage was lovely, very well maintained and equipped. The directions we were sent were accurate and easy to follow.... the owner also contacted me after the holiday for feedback and to check that everything went well. Our deposit was returned extremely promptly...... We love Herefordshire and would definitely use this cottage and your site again.” April 2012
“We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at the Lanes (Rose Cottage). It was everything we hoped it would be, warm, cosy, enchanting. We loved the fact that the house had what felt like real family treasures by way of furniture and pictures and vases etc.
It didn't feel like a holiday let, more like someone's holiday home that they had been generous enough to allow us to borrow for a week. We thought it was extremely good value for the money and hope to return or use one of your other cottages in the coming year. We have also told a number of our friends and colleagues about you. Our dog, Riley, enjoyed himself too.” October 2011
“Very pleased with the cottage, well maintained & high quality fittings. An ideal setting to relax & get away for a few days. The cottage is also convenient for visiting local villages & Leominster town. Happy to recommend The Lanes. “ August 2011
“We did enjoy our stay at the Lanes. The only negative would be that we had elderly parents with us who found the steep stairs challenging. Other than that the facilities and cottage were lovely and clean.” July 2011
“Booking was very easy and details and directions were prompt to arrive by email. The cottage was lovely, with beautiful decor and quality furnishings. It had everything you needed and the welcome pack was very much appreciated.
The cottage was set in a lovely area and was ideal for exploring. Just a couple of minor points the cottage garden is not fully enclosed as described, and it would have been nice to have had some garden furniture on the lawn area to take advantage of the late afternoon/early evening sun as the existing benches are in shade by about 5pm. We had a really enjoyable stay at the Lanes and would definitely recommend it.” July 2011
“We were absolutely delighted with The Lanes and would definitely want to return. The location is perfect, it is very private and the cottage has been renovated beautifully in our opinion. We have stayed in many places over the years but this cottage is at or close to the top of the list.” July 2011
“Feedback for The Lanes. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay here, cottage good. A fence onto road between garage and cottage would have been helpful to contain two very lively young Labradors, their greatest delight was chasing the neighbourhood cats! My husband mentioned a tea cosy would be useful. We definitely would stay there again if in the area.”
(The garden is now enclosed CHL edit 2012) June 2011
“We thought The Lanes was a delightful cottage and was ideally situated for The Hay Festival, whilst still being able to get away from the crowds and enjoy the beautiful countryside…..” May 2011
“We had a lovely time. Cottage was delightful, v comfortable beds, beautiful bed linen and china in particular. V useful welcome butter and milk and bread. Great having a gate dog could not get through and my son enjoyed playing in the grass…..” May 2011
“We thought the cottage was lovely. It was so nice to stay somewhere which was newly renovated to a high standard with quality decor/furnishings. Really appreciated things like the big fluffy white towels, quality linen, etc. I would definitely recommend the cottage to others. And it is well located - very peaceful, yet near to places of interest…..”
The Area Around The Lanes
The Lanes is located on the edge of a small cluster of houses standing detached in its own ground. It is quite remote and therefore a car is an absolute necessity to get there, but the peace and quiet this affords is fabulous. The cottage itself has a fenced garden at the rear, with 2 garden benches and table and chairs to sit on admiring the garden perhaps with a cup of tea/coffee or with an evening drink .
In front of the cottage is a quiet country lane. The nearest pub serving food is a 10 minute drive to either Pembridge or Weobley. The immediate area has a higher than usual density of public footpaths.
An ideal base for those wanting a complete break from it all, no need to travel anywhere if you don't want to, although within an hours drive are some of the area's leading attractions: Hereford with its Cathedral and famous Mappa Mundi is within 20 minutes drive. Leominster with it's Priory and locally owned shops is a very nice place to wander around.
Black and White Village trail including the Black and White village of Weobley with good pub food and an organic dairy is only 10 minutes drive away. Ludlow (antiques & Michelin Star restaurants), Ludlow Castle
, Hay on Wye (bookshops galore), Tintern Abbey (history and tea rooms), Chepstow (castle & museum), Symonds Yat /Ross on Wye (outstanding river walks - canoeing - falcons), Golden Valley (great views - 'Shadowlands'), Offa's Dyke (historic walking path) and Brecon Beacons (sheep, walks and wilderness).
The cottage is suitable as a quiet country escape, offering the ideal location to explore South Shropshire, Herefordshire and Wales. There are several market towns a short drive away all with historic interest: Shrewsbury
, Hereford, and Hay on Wye
a little further. Other towns of interest are Much Wenlock, birthplace of the modern day Olympics and Bishop’s Castle
with it's local Brewery The Three Tuns, perfect for Real Ale lovers.
Smaller places, such as Dymock and Kempley
are well worth a visit as well as Ledbury
